Trying to find the origins of an Irish surname?
Q. I've been doing a bit of research as to the origins of my direct male ancestry and so far it's taken me to Ireland. The last name? Spelled now, "Murrain" but obviously it's been changed. Spelling alternatives are: Morraine, Murran, Murrin, Morghain, Moran. If anyone has any info (especially those who live in Ireland!), that may have any info on this, it would be much appreciated. As for the ancestor, he was an indentured servant and immigrated from Ireland in 1655 due to the fact that he was Catholic. He had a brother named Kennet (I believe) and landed in Virginia. His name is John Murrain (spelling alternatives possible).
