Yard Sale!!!!!???!!!!?
Q. I'm having a yard sale soon and my little sister wants to make hand made things such as keychains, gimps, necklaces ,bracelets, and earrings. She will be making the necklaces, bracelets and earings by hand. Do you think they will sell?Would you buy them? Also if you were to go to a Yard Sale today what would you be looking for?

A. Yeah , I would buy them. I love those cool kind of body decorations! How much are you planning to sell them for? I say 10 to 20 cents for the bracelets and keychains and necklaces. If I was at a yard sale, I would be looking for decorative stuff and crafty thingy's. Bye

A. yard sale is when you have a bunch of stuff to get rid of usually sell it for pennies on the dollar potential buyers are those who drive by garner their attention by an ad in the paper the week before and where I lived in Tampa, back in a subdivision - 2-3 other families would set up shop - without paying for an ad knowing the traffic would pass their house before getting to mine so they scarfed my sales profit margin - nope this isn't retail sale this is stuff you have had for a while - and want to get rid of if you set up shop on a regular basis = the tax man comes to visit all the best

A. Sell your stuff at a good price. People aren't going to pay high prices for your junk. Talk to people. Say hi. Ask them if they're looking for anything. Tell them everything is negotiable. Don't stack stuff. People don't want to go sorting. Use craigslist and have lots of signs to promote.

Q. i am new to the yard sale thing. what time should it start and finish?
Asked by hello - Fri Jun 20 18:59:07 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It all depends on the area you live in. The ones around here start around 8 A.M. and end whenever the customers stop coming. We rarely have them on Sundays. But, where my sister lives, they have them on Sundays all the time.My mom lives in Florida, and they go to the sales starting at 6A.M. I guess its whatever suits you, just advertise your hours so people know. Also, keep it open so working people can stop by after work. You will get a lot of business then.

What are the steps to a successful yard sale?
Q. I've never had a yard sale and am thinking about having one with a relative. It seems most yard sales are just a bunch of junk. What sells and what doesn't sell?
Asked by Bowllynn - Tue Jun 26 15:29:18 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. childrens clothes are big sellers, but anything you want to sell will go for the right price. Expect to sell things for next to nothing, this is not the place to try to sell your old desk for $100 because people only want to pay $5 for something worth $100..I used colored dots to make pricing easy, for example a yellow dot for 10 cent items, a blue dot for 25 cents, etc. Or use the colored dots with prices on it and your stuff has one colored dot and your relative has a different color on her items. To make a rack to hang clothes on, if you have two ladders, you can put a pole through the top rung and hang clothes on it. Make sure you have helpers so someone can always watch the money and someone can watch the shoppers so they don't… [cont.]

How much to sell baby clothes at yard sale?
Q. I am planning on having a yard sale soon and I have alot of baby clothes to sell. I do not want to sell them on Ebay so I was wondering what price to sell them at the yard sale. I sold some baby clothes 2 years ago for $1.00 each and a lady thought that was too expensive. I was thinking .50 for them. Is that a good price? Need some opinions. Thanks!
Asked by Yikes - Fri Mar 26 21:05:34 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you are having it more than one day I would start maybe at $1.00 the first day for the name brand/expensive clothes, $0.50 the next or then if someone asks you if you'll take $0.50 for them accept it. For all the non-name brand stuff I would say $0.25-$0.50.

Q. this is my first yard sale. Im a little nervous about how its going to go overall. Any tips or good advice. Also, i have some cute dresses i want to hang up, but i dont know what to hang them from.
Asked by Butterfly86 - Thu Jul 19 11:12:52 2007 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can hang the dresses on a nearby tree, or set up a ladder and hang them. Best advice: have one or two friends to help you at your yard sale. If you get several customers milling around your yard, you'll appreciate the extra eyes to make sure no one goes where they're not supposed to. Put your big ticket items (things that you expect to sell/popular) nearer to the road so that people will see them as they drive by and be tempted to stop. Have everything on tables. Older women and busy shoppers will not want to take the time to bend down and root through a box. Make sure everything is priced. If you have a bunch of items selling for the same price, and have just a sign saying so much apiece, remember how much it was, because some… [cont.]

A. 1. Start off organized. Sort all of your items into categories (sort kids' clothes into boy/girl, infant, toddler, etc.). Evaluate every item, and throw away the stuff that is really junk. 2. Buy neon colored price tags at Walmart. Don't price too low, but don't price too high, either. I price everything as I sort. 3. Be ready to display. Boxes DON'T work for display. Get poles to hang things on; have tables, or sawhorses and plywood. Spread things out. 4. Advertise--run an ad in your paper or Shopper's Guide, but make it stand out. Write it in limerick form! Have colorful signs out on the day of your sale. 5. Have sacks ready for your buyers. 6. Have a cooler full of drinks to sell to shoppers. 7. Put a few… [cont.]

Where do I go to get a yard sale permit?
Q. I live in Montgomery County, MD. There is a large patch of grass outside of my townhouse development that appears to be public property. It would be a great place for a yard sale. Where would I go to get a permit?
Asked by KimberlyJ - Wed Feb 13 12:25:17 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. "townhouse development" = homeowner's association = busybodies who will try to stop you "for lowering their property values" "public property" - there's no such thing, else you could just use it without a permit. It's government property, and you need to find out from that government whether it will deign to let you sell there. Don't write to Yahoo Answers when a call to City Hall will give a more accurate answer. Here in rural Ohio, when we want to have a yard sale, we just have one. You could do that too, and then play ignorant when the cops come. It's always easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

We put an add in the newsletter with the date as well as alternate date (rain) 3. we put flyers in each mailbox (kids helped) 18 houses on block. 4. We wanted at least 9 homes to sign up and we got 16 so that was good. A. I use two ladders with a pole set between them on the higher steps. I have metal poles to use, but you could even use a broom stick, as long as it's strong enough to support the weight of the clothes.

Asked by sugarplum - Tue Dec 16 11:02:00 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, you can have a still have a great sale. All you need to do is advertise. Go buy some colorful poster-board and get busy making signs. When you write be sure to make it neat and large enough for people to read easily. Post one sign in your yard and then at any intersections/stop signs in your area. You can also advertise the sale on craigslist or at any local community bulletin boards (grocery stores, restaurants, library). Check out your neighborhood and see what types of free advertisement is available to you.

How much should infant/toddler clothes cost at a yard sale?
Q. I'm having my first yard sale soon and I'd like to group the clothes by size and just ask a flat price per item. If I charge $.25 a piece, I won't make much. but $1 a piece is too much. I think, sometimes, people charge a flat price for how ever much you can stuff into a lunch bag. What do you think? What's a reasonable price per item or bag? I've got everything from infant sizes (including socks and hats) to 24mos. Thanks!
Asked by NEWTOME - Fri May 2 12:11:21 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I always make a $.25 table, and put odds and ends on it that aren't in the best shape. For newer name brand outfits I usually put anywhere from $2-4 ... Coats in good condition you can go up to$5-6 ..let people make offers. It all depends on what shape the clothing is in ...I will spend more on a nice, newer item ...good luck !

A. If you post on power poles and stop signs etc, most cities have it to where it's illegial to do so and they remove them because of that. The best thing to do is get a box and put the sign on a box on the GROUND!! They will not remove those..only the ones posted on city property.

A. We try to, I live in a small town that has a Fall Arts Festival, usually the 2nd weekend in September. They re route most of the traffic onto my street, it runs parrallel with the main street and the shuttle bus drives by every 30 minutes, so my neighbors and I usually set up yard sales on both sides of the street. My mother is a bit of a collector, she actually fills her van with all the bits and pieces she finds and drives down from her home in Montana to California just to do the sale. She brings all sorts of stuff, lamps, tables, china, bits of "art" and old mirrors, toys and old dolls. She did pretty well this year, we just set up for Saturday and she sold almost $300, I only made about $90 (I think she pocketed some of my… [cont.]

I have 5 currently marked: Kitchen, Toys, Clothes, Shoes, Misc. (I actually have 3 bins for toys) the biggest mistake made at yard sales with toys is that people forget about the "little"parts that make the toy workable.. I make sure batteries are removed so the toy doesn't get destroyed and if there are little parts I tape the part to the toy and if it fits in a ziplock bag it the whole thing goes in the bag... Hope this helps! Edit: Once something goes in the bin, it is off limits, I solved the problem with my son by having him help me. I let him… [cont.]

A. 1) Have the yardsale on a sunny Saturday from around 9am - 3pm 2) Pick a spot that gets a lot of traffic driving by if possible 3) Advertise the yard sale on craigslist once every 24 hours for a few days before the sale 4) Hang large flouresecent signs at nearby intersections pointing to the yard sale 5) Try and get neighbors to also have a yard sale the same day and advertise as "multi-family" 6) Get a lot of people to help out and park their cars in the driveway to give the appearance of a busy place. People attract people.

How much do serving silver dishes sell for at a yard sale?
Q. They are in pretty good shape and there are many different kinds like trays, candleholders, plates, and many more. So if I wanted to sell them at a yard sale what should the price be?
Asked by fatimoini - Fri Mar 23 08:12:02 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Are they just silver toned, or are they silver plated? Either way, you should be able to get more than $1 each for them if they are in good condition. If they are silver plated, then you should be able to get quite a bit more. It really depends on what people are willing to pay where you live. You can always stick a price on there a little higher than what you think you may get, and then tell anyone who looks at the items to make you an offer if they think the price is too high. That way, it's up to you to accept the offer or not. Good luck.

A. Around 1990, I bought a TV for $2. They told me it did not work. I found that my attaching the UHF attenna to the UHF input, and the VHF attenna to the VHF input, it worked quite well... It lasted a couple of years more. Second best was a grandfather clock kit for $10. It was a total fake, but it looked OK and I sold it to someone for $50.
