Hi where can i find the value of antiques/collectibles
Q. apart from worth-point.com and any ideas where i can sell them
Asked by nuttybag - Sun Aug 3 15:59:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Values can be found in books and magazines in your local library. Most are general, while some are more specific. Values can also be found on eBay, etc., and other areas on line. Visit antique shops to see what dealers want to sell their items for. Large flea markets also have good antique dealers. You can sell over the internet, an estate/antique sale, contacting dealers to see if they want to buy, or try craigslist.net.

Best selling outlet for antiques and collectibles OTHER than e-bay.?
Q. Which is the best one out there OTHER than e-bay that brings meaningful results for online sellers of collectibles, antiquarian books, etc? I'm thinking of sales results AND cost effectiveness.
Asked by Alex T - Thu Aug 16 17:09:45 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Aside from eBay, the auction sites that give the best sales results and cost effectiveness are the specific niche websites that deal with that particular collectible. I trade vintage postcards, and one auction that I really liked is Playle.com which attracts buyers and sellers of vintage postcards. Auctions, while not online, sponsored by trade magazines are also very effective sales-wise Other ways to sell items online besides ebay 1. Niche auction sites WineBid Penbid.com LabX Just Beads! Pottery Auction Sedo IronPlanet Playle Bid4Assets 2. Yahoo! Auctions 3. Overstock 4. Amazon.com 5. Liquidation Marketplaces such as UBid Liquidation.com 6. Is the antiques and collectibles market much worse than it was 30 years ago?
Q. I'm trying to liquidate my parent's estate. They had a Victorian house filled with all kind of antiques and collectibles - Depression and pressed glass, framed artwork, period furniture, etc. I don't want to use EBAY, a lot of the items are too fragile, too large, or too heavy to ship plus the hassle of packaging and shipping. I tried to contact estate liquidators and auctioneers, but nobody is interested unless the items are Sotheby's quality, and who has that laying around? Last autumn I put some stuff out for a yard sale and hardly anyone stopped. One dealer told me I could ask market value for the stuff and keep it or let it go for 10 cents on the dollar and sell it - it would depend on what was more important to me. Now I don't know… [cont.]

A. Bob, what kind of antiques? There are many sites that specialize in different antiques. I would definitely research the value before putting them on eBay because you would hate to undervalue something when it's worth a lot more! I can recommend a few sites to go to and a few Yahoo groups that can help in your reasearch. Give me a yell :)

Cleaning out Old Plantation houses, what antiques should i keep/sell??????
Q. Old plantation house i have bought, and I'm wondering what items in the house such as old antique items, collectables, and such. What top items are of any value?
Asked by Kim - Tue Jul 8 15:02:13 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the really short answer is that everything that old will be of value to someone. I would check out the antiques section of E-bay to get some ideas, then grab about 3 appraisers/antique dealers. have them go thru the houses and make offers. briefly things of value would consist of: wainscotting, floors (random width flooring), doors, shutters, and old window glass, cobblestones, fountains. Iintact window sashes, mantles, lighting pieces, columns, freestanding cupboards and sideboards, wardrobes, trunks, and closets. Antique clothing, yardage (big bucks for this!) quilts and quilt tops, desks, chairs, rugs, some pictures and frames, china, door knobs, letters!, newspapers, silver, jewelry, military, playing cards. if there is a… [cont.]

Q. Hello All, My grandfather has recently passed away. He used to collect all kinds of antiques (mostly black memorabilia) and they have all been passed down to me. I currentley have three cigar store indians that I am trying to find buyers for. I have tried Ebay, Criag's List, Collectors, Auction Houses... I dont know what else to do. Please let me know if you know anyone (collectors, friends, dealers, etc.) who would be interested in speaking wtih me about these antiques. Thanks in advance!

A. Hello, I am very interested in knowing more about your cigar store Indians. If you can send me some pictures I will be able to give you a better idea of their value and or if I am interested in purchasing. I travel around this country buying and selling antiques such as Folk Art and Americana. I have been in business for 20 years and I am 38 years old. I am very professional and worked with many auction houses in Pa. and N.Y.C. If you do not care how much they are worth or what they sell for then auction is they way to go. I would be able to purchase these Indians at any level of value and would also be able to make a special trip to see them in person regardless of the outrageous price of fuel. I will show comparisons of value upon… [cont.]

Have you ever had an antique/collectible appraiser come to your home?
Q. Have heard they can cost around $200, do a walk-through and you should have everything out to see. I don't really know where to start in picking one, except the phone book. I also know that if they offer to buy anything, they should be told to leave, and that this is unethical. I love details--Thanks!! ;-)

A. If you need it for insurance reasons, I go with what the other answer says about contacting your insurance guy. If you want to sell your items, really, I don't think an appraiser anymore does that much good. To me, that is kind of a waste of money, unless you know firsthand they are reputable and good. Really, the online marketplace has changed the face of antique and collectibles so much, that doing your own online searches and getting up to the minute pricing is the way to go.

A. Two ways - a)Try to do promotion thru myspace, perfspot, tagged like socila sites where I see lot of music bands promoted successfully. b) Include affiliation program to your site and register with big affiliation houses and affiliates there will bring you sales and you will only pay part of sales money as commission once sales complets.
